Are you reliant on replicated data from your Dynamics 365 system for Power BI Dashboards? Since the Data Export Service has been deprecated, you may want to consider transitioning to Azure Synapse Link with Azure Data Factory to move your Dataverse data to an Azure SQL Database.
Microsoft announced on November 23, 2021 that the Data Export Service would be deprecated in November 2022. Ref.: Do more with data – From Data Export Service to Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse
Many businesses have growth accustomed to the convenience and rock-steady reliability of the Data Export Service to replicate Dynamics 365 / Dataverse data to an Azure SQL Database.
While the announcement was greeted with sighs, there was a good long runway to get an alternate solution in place. One of those alternate solutions is to use Azure Synapse Link to replicate your CRM data to an Azure Synapse Workspace. The setup for this initial stage of the solution is very similar to the Data Export Service, as you select which entities to replicate, and the replication service does the rest.
However, replicating data to an Azure Synapse Workspace is not quite the same thing as having your replicated data in an Azure SQL Database. The link from CRM to the Azure Synapse Workspace turns out to just be the first hop. A second hop will be necessary to get your replicated data over to an Azure SQL Database. For the second stage, we will use an Azure Data Factory Pipeline. From there, you will have practically the same Azure SQL Database as you had with the Data Export Service, which means you’ll be able to switch the data source on your Power BI Dashboards and keep right on rolling.
Please join us Wednesday, February 15th at 11:30 a.m. EST for an informative demo and discussion on the setup and operation of Azure Synapse Link as a replacement for the Data Export Service, including the crucial second hop to get your data back in a familiar Azure SQL Database that can replace your existing Azure SQL Database fed by the Data Export Service.
