Save As (either Template or Other formats, then Template), and browse to the following folder:

C:\users\username.localdomain\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

We’re also using Folder Redirection of My Documents to a Shared Network Drive.

SharePoint Content Types can also serve as templates.
